Thematic websites

Centropa offers teachers websites with specific themes, to make it easier to search for the resources you need. These websites collect the best of Centropa materials – interviews, photographs, exhibitions and films – and each highlights a particular historic event, such as Kristallnacht/the November pogrom, a geographical area where Centropa conducted interviews (Sephardic Jews in the Balkans), or a theme that teachers have told us is important in their teaching (what happens when someone turns against you). We hope you enjoy working with them.

The Holocaust in Hungary

By 1944, the Nazis had murdered most of the Jews in Poland, the Baltics, Greece and Yugoslavia. Hungary, however, was allied with Nazi Germany, not occupied by it. Most of its Jewish population was still alive.

The Germans did occupy Hungary in March, 1944, and hell was about to descend on Hungary’s Jews.
