Using Return to Rivne in the Classroom: An online workshop for Teachers

Shelly Weiner and Raya Kizhnerman live in Greensboro, NC, but they were born in the bustling city of Rivne—then in Poland, now in Ukraine. In 1941, 20,000 Jews lived in Rivne; when the German Wehrmacht and Waffen SS stormed into town, they planned on murdering every Jew they could find.

In Centropa’s film, Return to Rivne, Shelly and Raya tell how they and their mothers survived the massacre, how one ended up in the United States and the other in the Soviet Union, and how they found one another later in life.

On March 16, join us for presentations by innovative Centropa educators as they share with you how they use Shelly and Raya’s compelling story and Return to Rivne in Social Studies, ELA, and other classes.

Download Return to Rivne here, and we recommend you watch the film prior to the webinar, though it is not required. It is twenty-two minutes long, and costs nothing.
